Tea Time Book Club

Our Tea Time Book Club meets once a month and is led by Library Director Nyama Reed. This month we are reading Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie.

"Just after midnight, the famous Orient Express is stopped in its tracks by a snowdrift. By morning, the millionaire Samuel Edward Ratchett lies dead in his compartment, stabbed a dozen times, his door locked from the inside. Without a shred of doubt, one of his fellow passengers is the murderer."-- From CountyCat

Environmental Awareness Book Club from the Whitefish Bay Garden Club
Save the Date for:
Monday, January 26,  6-7:30PM
The Environmental Awareness Book Club is led by members of the Whitefish Bay Garden Club in partnership with the Whitefish Bay Public Library which will meet once a quarter. This month we're reading The Serviceberry: abundance and reciprocity in the natural world by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Registration is encouraged for planning but not required.

Light snacks will be provided; organizers request that people bring their own water bottle.

About the book: "Our economy is rooted in scarcity, competition, and the hoarding of resources, and we have surrendered our values to a system that actively harms what we love. Meanwhile, the serviceberry’s relationship with the natural world is an embodiment of reciprocity, interconnectedness, and gratitude. The tree distributes its wealth—its abundance of sweet, juicy berries—to meet the needs of its natural community. And this distribution ensures its own survival. As Kimmerer explains, 'Serviceberries show us another model, one based upon reciprocity, where wealth comes from the quality of your relationships, not from the illusion of self-sufficiency.'”
