Adult Programs

OCPL Poetry Contest

April 1st - 30th

Celebrate National Poetry Month by participating in OCPL's annual Poetry Contest! There are three age categories:
 
Middle School (ages 11-13)
High School (ages 14-18)
Adult (18+)

Poetry must be submitted in-person at the library's Children's or Adult Service Desks during the month of April. Entries will be judged by members of the community. Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places for each category, as well as a chance to be published in the Oak Creek Current magazine and on OCPL's website
 
Winners will be announced at the Poetry Open Mic Night on May 16, 2025 and be invited to read their poems aloud if they would like.

Registration for each Thursday opens the Monday prior. You may only register for one 30 minute session per Thursday; walk-in appointments are not available.

Technology Training Lab

April 3rd - 24th

6:00 - 8:30 p.m

Learn intermediate concepts in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher such as: using tables and editing headers/footers, using conditional values and creating charts/graphs, animating slides and using timing, as well as creating shapes and inserting building blocks. 

 
This is a 4-week class. Registration is required.

Friends of the Library Meeting

Civic Center

Apr. 9th, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

For more than 20 years, the Friends of the Oak Creek Public Library has served as an independent organization of persons and businesses interested in assisting the library in developing programs, encouraging gifts, promoting knowledge and providing a channel for individuals and organizations to express ideas and make suggestions for library use and services.

Library Board Meeting

The Oak Creek Public Library Board of Trustees serves as the governing body of the Oak Creek Public Library. The Board is composed of seven members, each appointed by the Mayor for staggered three-year terms. The board usually meets on the second Thursday of each month in the Civic Center. Some meetings may be held virtually.

Six-Minute Memoir Workshop

Multi-purpose Room

Apr. 22nd, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Hosted by author Mary Helen Stefaniak, this workshop is an opportunity to capture a place, a person, or a moment from your past and bring it to life by writing a six-minute memoir of your own.
 
This program is geared toward teens & adults. Registration is required.

Character Championship

Ends Apr. 7th

Make sure to vote each week for your favorite characters. The third & final round of voting is April 1-7.
 
Voting slips will be available at a table in front of the green train carriage located on the 1st floor of the library.
 
This program is for all ages. Registration is not required.

This 30-minute Story Time is geared toward children ages 2-5, with an adult (siblings welcome). We'll be incorporating music and movement into all books, songs, and rhymes.

Cruise down the Nile and explore the Great Pyramids for a fun virtual tour of ancient Egypt. Crafts and games will follow the tour!
