Photography Contest

Congratulations to the winners of the 2024 Photography Contest, including Best in Show by Justin Chau and our Judge's Big Wow by John Phillips. We are having a reception for the winners on Saturday, November 16 from 4:30-6PM. Winning photos will be on display and all our welcome to attend.

Prizes can be picked up at the reception. If you are a winner and unable to attend, your prize will be mailed to you. Winning photos will remain on display through the adult services department until next year's contest so feel free to tell your friends and family to stop by.

If you have photos that did not win, you may pick them up at your leisure beginning Monday, October 28 at the adult services desk.

Thanksgiving Closing

The library will be closed on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29 for the Thanksgiving holiday. We will reopen for regular hours on Saturday, November 30.

Programs for Adults

Five Generations of Military Service to the United States- Veteran's Day Program
Sunday, November 10, 1-2:30PM
KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Kim Queen, Captain, U.S. Army retired Commander, Department of Wisconsin Jewish War Veterans
Mr. Queen presently works with doctors at the Milwaukee veteran's home training them on PTSD issues and religious support for veterans of Jewish faith.

Led by Chas Mulcahy, former Chairman of the Veteran's War Memorial in Milwaukee and sponsored by:
  • The Veterans Community Relations Team (VCRT) (formed in 2013 by community citizens and veterans committed to advancing issues and programs that further respect for and services to veterans)
  • Citizens of Beaumont (an active group of residents at Beaumont Place in WFB)
  • Al Hurvis ADAMM Education Foundation, Inc (offers scholarships to incoming college students)
Program includes information about:
  • Marine Captain Robert McCahill graduate of St. Monica Grade School and Whitefish Bay High School was killed in action at Iwo Jima in February, 1945 during the War in the Pacific.
  • The legacy of three generations – the MacArthurs of Milwaukee i including:
    -Judge Arthur MacArthur Former Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor
    -General Arthur MacArthur Medal of Honor recipient
    -General Douglas MacArthur Medal of Honor recipient

Adult Take and Make: Tote Bags
Thursday, November 21, Starting at 9:30AM
De-stress and get creative with this fun craft for adults. Decorate a resuable tote bag using paint and sponges. We'll provide all the supplies, while you provide the creativity! Bags will be available at open while supplies last.

North Shore Health Department staff will be around to facilitate conversation, answer any questions you might have, present on a variety of child-related topics, and more!  Accessibility is also a core focus, so entertainment for kids and light refreshments will be available for all.
