How Can we Find Other Life in the Universe?

June 6th, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m

The Oak Creek Public Library is excited to host a Badger Talk by Thomas Beatty, Assistant Professor in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Are we alone in the universe? This question has been asked for over two thousand years, and we now possess the tools and techniques necessary to answer it. Professor Beatty will discuss what we want to look for on other planets to see if there is life as well as how we have started this search using telescopes.

Friends of the Library Meeting

Tower Room

June 12th, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

For more than 20 years, the Friends of the Oak Creek Public Library has served as an independent organization of persons and businesses interested in assisting the library in developing programs, encouraging gifts, promoting knowledge and providing a channel for individuals and organizations to express ideas and make suggestions for library use and services.

Our meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month (except for July and August) at 6:00 p.m., typically held in the Tower Room.

Library Board Meeting

The Oak Creek Public Library Board of Trustees serves as the governing body of the Oak Creek Public Library. The Board is composed of seven members, each appointed by the Mayor for staggered three-year terms. The board usually meets on the second Thursday of each month in the Civic Center. Some meetings may be held virtually.

Computer Class

Convert Your Memories - Analog to Digital

Technology Training Lab

June 13th, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

This class will show you how to convert your analog materials (VHS, cassette, and film negatives) into digital format. In addition, there will be instruction on how to use the Blue Yeti recording microphone and Audacity as well as discussion about the different drives and hubs the library has available for checkout.

 

This is a single-session class. Registration is required.

Intergenerational Story Time

Multi-purpose Room

June 21st, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.

This 30-minute Story Time welcomes children of all ages with their caregivers and seniors from the community, including some special guests from The Waters. It will feature stories and songs followed by a playtime and social for all attendees. 

This program is geared toward all ages. Registration is not required.

Friends of the Library Farmer's Market Book Sale

Join us for a $0.50 sale at the Farmers Market in Drexel Town Square on select Saturdays. There is a huge selection to choose from, so see what treasures you can find!

 

The Friends of the Library Famers Market Book Sale will be held 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Saturday, August 10
  • Saturday, September 14
  • Saturday, October 19 (Fall Fest)
 
Each item is just $0.50, and all proceeds benefit the programs, services, and collections of the Oak Creek Public Library.

Summer Reading Challenge

Registration opens June 8th

Join Oak Creek Public Library in reading over the summer. This all-ages Summer Reading Challenge runs Saturday, June 8 – Saturday, August 10. Upon registration, participants will have their name added to the window mural overlooking Drexel Town Square. After reading for 15 days, participants will receive a prize (while supplies last). Prizes will be available Saturday, June 22 – Saturday, August 10, or while supplies last.

Summer Reading Kick-Off at the Farmers Market

June 8th, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Meet us at the Farmers Market for the Summer Reading Kick-Off! Learn how to join the Summer Reading Challenge and grab some library swag (while supplies last) at our booth from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Story Times based on this year's theme "Adventure Begins at Your Library" will take place at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
 
This Story Time is geared toward children ages 4-8, with an adult, though all ages are welcome. Registration is not required.

This 30-minute Story Time is geared toward children ages 2-5, with an adult (siblings welcome). We'll be incorporating music and movement into all books, songs, and rhymes.

This 15-20-minute Story Time is geared toward children ages birth to 24 months, with an adult (siblings welcome). Come enjoy short stories, songs, and lapsit rhymes that foster early literacy. Play time with toys to follow.

Registration is not required. Please only attend one time slot per day.

Rainbow Book Month

YA Section (2nd floor)

Rainbow books are located on the display stand in the YA section throughout the month of June. After you read one, tell us a bit about it by filling out a short review form, and we'll give you a prize. Participants can turn in their forms at the second-floor service desk to receive their prize.
 
This program is geared toward teens. Registration is not required.

Summer Performer - Morris, the Magic Man!

Morris the Magic Man is a magician who has performed all over the world. His shows are filled with fun, puppets and, of course, great MAGIC!
