New Look in the Teen Zone!

Genre Colors and Teen Zone Shelves.
The Teen Zone of the library just got a little more colorful! Miss Megan, the Teen Services Librarian, and the library Clerks have been working hard to add colored genre labels to all the Young Adult (YA) books at the Greendale Public Library. Each colored label represents a different genre which allows patrons to better find the books they enjoy reading, and for the librarians to provide better readers’ advisory services. One reason we decided to do this for our patrons is because Greendale Middle and High School color-code their book collections into genres already. We made sure to match the colors to what they have so all Greendale Students can find books and genres at the Greendale Public Library that they love.
Stop by the Teen Zone during your next visit to the library to browse our new colorful collection. Maybe you’ll even see something you want to check out for yourself!

The Women by Kristen Hannah

"When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances "Frankie" McGrath hears these unexpected words, it is a revelation. Raised on idyllic Coronado Island and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing, being a good girl. But in 1965 the world is changing, and she suddenly imagines a different choice for her life. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she impulsively joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path. As green and inexperienced as the men sent to Vietnam to fight, Frankie is overwhelmed by the chaos and destruction of war, as well as the unexpected trauma of coming home to a changed and politically divided America."-- Provided by publisher.

A Message from the Library Board President, Corrine D'Amato

Library Board President, Corrine D'Amato
Greetings Village of Greendale!

I enjoy being on the Library Board, but to me the library is more than a library, but a key component for resources located conveniently in our downtown Greendale. As a new year comes upon us, so do recent updates. First, the Library Board will have two new members for 2024 as there are two vacancies. I am excited to have new community members join us to help serve Greendale!

Secondly, not only is the Greendale Public Library a wonderful place that houses a plethora of knowledge and resources but also, partners with the Park and Recreation Department and Health Department as the Community Learning Center (CLC). The CLC is such an important part of Greendale that helps support the community in a variety of ways! Looking forward to the collaboration of the CLC together to help strengthen the community with resources. To me I find each one of these departments important and utilize them routinely. Many great opportunities are available in the Park and Rec Catalog for kiddos and adults to get active or learn a new skill. Health Department offers increasing activity initiatives, health support, and convenient drop off for medical containers. The upcoming Park and Rec Brochure will now include information and resources for the Library and Health Department. Another great update for the community!

Spring is a time for renewal, watching the trees blossom and flowers bloom is a reminder for me that you can start over or help yourself grow. The CLC has an abundance of resources to help you with your goals to always improve. Check out a book to read or listen to (my favorites) at the library. Sign up for a Park and Rec class to either increase activity or knowledge. Stop in the Health Department to get a map of all the amazing trails we have in Greendale and much more. Hope you all have a safe and hoppy spring!
