Most Checked-out Fiction 2023!

Book Covers

For funsies, we thought you'd all like to know what some of the most popular titles were here at GPL for the past year!  The following list includes the most checked-out Greendale Public Library Fiction items in the year 2023.

(Note: Many popular titles are not included here that were Lucky Day Book of the Month titles. Since we owned 10 or more copies of lucky day titles, those individual items have fewer checkouts. Thus this list is dominated by popular titles with fewer copies at GPL.)

Most Circulated Adult Fiction Items at GPL in 2023:

1.  Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus

2.  Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver

3.  Happy Place by Emily Henry

4.  Storm Watch by C.J. Box

5.  Worthy Opponents by Danielle Steel

6.  The House in the Pines by Ana Reyes

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

"Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general--also known as her tough-as-talons mother--has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you're smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away ... because dragons don't bond to "fragile" humans. They incinerate them. With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother's daughter--like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant. She'll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise. Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom's protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret."-- Provided by publisher.

New Years Message from the Director, Brian Van Klooster

Greendale Public Library Director, Brian Van Klooster

Dear Library Lovers -

Welcome to 2024! I thank everyone who supported our Village Library in the last year through their patronage, donations and kind words.

I'm thrilled to report that your support of the Library Giving Tree resulted in over $890 of donations for things like the ever-popular checkout desk bookmarks, 1000 Books Before Kindergarten incentives, fresh new puzzles and craft supplies for the kid zone, Own Voices books and program supplies for teens, and more! There have been so many other donors in the last year who have each quietly given hundreds of dollars to this library to ensure we can continue to offer special, high-quality resources.

I also want to acknowledge the priceless donations of time made by our volunteers. A team of thirteen super-dependable weekly volunteers and at least a dozen more occasional helpers have assisted us with important daily routines, meeting demand for popular events, and supporting the Summer Reading Program. The Friends of the Library are yet another volunteer support network, giving time and talents that raise funds and increase awareness in our community of the value of libraries and reading. I thank all of them for their generosity!

In mid-year 2024 the CountyCat catalog will have a major facelift. We’ve been using the same catalog for over 10 years now! That’s an eternity in the world of technology. I know that this is one of the key pieces of library user experience and many of you are comfortable and adept users of it. We’ll work hard to make this transition as smooth as possible for everyone. You’ll see notices about this in future newsletters as we have more details from MCFLS

Also in the upcoming year the Library Board has committed to starting a planning process that will take us through the next 2-3 years. We’ll look at all aspects of library services and operations to ensure that we’re being responsible and responsive to community needs and resources. Watch upcoming Library Board meeting agendas to get a sense of where things are headed.

I and the rest of the Team here look forward to serving Greendale in 2024 and beyond.

See you at the Library!

Brian Van Klooster
