Greendale Public Library Featured in Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Online Article

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Article Headline

Teen Librarian, Megan Reddin, was recently interviewed for an article with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Online about GPL's Mental Health Initiatives.  The article titled "Greendale Public Library establishes mental health collection for teen readers" discussed Greendale Public Library's mental health collection, mental health web resources, the librarys participation in the group Healthy Mind, Healthy Greendale as well as its coordination with the local Middle School and High School libraries to make sure that all members of the community have access to various mental health resources.

GPL Celebrates "Official" 50th Anniversary

Greendale Village Life Article

The Greendale Public Library can trace its origins back to 1938, where it existed as a small collection of 3,000 books organized by the Greendale School District and housed in the community building first, then later in the Greendale High School. It wasn't until a Wisconsin State Law was ammended in 1971, that required public libraries to have library boards organized by municipalities, that the Public Library was forced to separate from the School District.  The Library Board was then created in 1972 with the new "Official" public library open for business in 1973 (see article clipping above).  GPL later moved out of the Greendale High School and into a new store front location in 1974.  Find out more about the History of the Library on our website.

To commemorate the Greendale Public Library's 50th anniversary and the Village of Greendale's 85th Anniversary, GPL will have a small display about Greendale in the entryway.  It will feature books about Greendale, a timeline of the Library's History and a Greendale cross-word puzzle.  Display coming soon!

The Five-Star Weekend by Elin Hilderbrand

"Hollis Shaw's life seems picture-perfect. She's the creator of the popular food blog Hungry with Hollis and is married to Matthew, a dreamy heart surgeon. But after she and Matthew get into a heated argument one snowy morning, he leaves for the airport and is killed in a car accident. The cracks in Hollis's perfect life--her strained marriage and her complicated relationship with her daughter, Caroline--grow deeper. So when Hollis hears about something called the 'Five-Star Weekend'--one woman organizes a trip for her best friend from each phase of her life: her teenage years, her twenties, her thirties, and mid-life--she decides to host her own Five-Star Weekend on Nantucket. But her weekend doesn't turn out to be a joyful Hallmark movie. The husband of Hollis's childhood friend Tatum arranges for Hollis's first love, Jack Finigan, to spend time with them, stirring up old feelings. Meanwhile, Tatum is forced to play nice with abrasive and elitist Dru-Ann, Hollis's best friend from UNC-Chapel Hill. Dru-Ann's career as a prominent Chicago sports agent is in jeopardy after her comments about a client's mental health issues are misconstrued online. Brooke, Hollis's friend from their thirties, has just discovered that her husband is having an inappropriate relationship with a woman at work. Again! And then there's Gigi, a stranger to everyone (including Hollis) who reached out to Hollis on her blog. Gigi embodies an unusual grace and, as it happens, has many secrets ... It will be a weekend like no other"--Dust jacket flap.
