Have you lost a library book?
Have you ever lost track of a library item and you’re not sure what to do? We get this question often and we urge patrons to do the following:

Start by calling the Whitefish Bay Public Library!  We can look at your account to see if we can renew the item to give you more time to look for it.  We can also do a shelf check in case it was returned and missed getting checked in.  If the item is not from the Whitefish Bay Library we can provide you contact information for the owning location so you can call and speak with their staff about their lost item procedures.

We suggest that you don’t pay for the item until you are absolutely sure it cannot be found.  If you should pay for the item and then subsequently find it, some libraries only give a partial refund within a certain window of time.  For lost Whitefish Bay items, patrons have 10 days from payment to return the item, but will only get the replacement fee minus a $10 processing fee refunded.

Also note that if you have a replacement charge on your library account for a long overdue item, when you return the item in good condition that charge may be adjusted down to a maximum overdue fee of $5.00 or less depending on the owning library’s fee structure.
